A sleepy Sydney convenience store worker who took a nap on the job was robbed by an opportunistic thief who left with $800 cash from the till, the safe and a drink.
In CCTV footage taken from the King Street store, the worker can be seen nodding off before he decides to abandon his post at the cashier for a nap in the storeroom.
A man dressed in a grey tracksuit wanders into the store just before midnight and upon realising the store is empty, walks behind the empty register.

The audacious thief makes no effort to conceal his identify and appears to pocket some cash before brazenly attempting to dislodge the till.
He returns for a second time, this time with some sort of tool, and successfully dismounts the till and carries it out of the store under his arm.
Returning for the third time, the man enters the store again and appears unfazed when the store’s employee returns.
He nonchalantly grabs a bottle of water, offers to pay the convenience store worker in cash, and watches as the confused employee realises the till has gone.

The employee initially told police that he had been threatened by two men who had robbed the store carrying scissors, Nine News reported.
However, after watching the in-store security camera video, the police and the owner saw the series of events unfold.
‘I think that nobody should be robbed if they’re a hard worker…He might lose his job, but I don’t think he deserves this,’ Mohammed Farooqi, another worker of the store, told Nine News.
Police have not been able to find the thief but were able to locate the stolen till nearby.
‘It appears at this stage to be an opportunistic crime, it is strange footage for sure,’ NSW Police Acting Crime Manager, David Gates, said.
