A DoorDash customer has been left outraged after receiving a message from the delivery service claiming over 80 per cent of customers tip their drivers – as the company reveals the misunderstanding.
The confused diner took to Reddit to ask fellow Aussies about a pop-up message they received after placing an order on the DoorDash app.
‘Thank your next dasher with a tip,’ the message read.

‘Did you know that over 80 per cent of orders included a tip for dashers? 100% of these tips go directly to your dasher.’
The customer asked other Australians if they routinely tipped their delivery drivers, adding the message sounded like ‘bull****’.
Daily Mail Australia understands the push notification was incorrectly sent to Australian users and that the 80 per cent statistic does not apply.
DoorDash Australia does give users the option to tip their delivery drivers, and Dashers receive the entire tip if they do.
However, customers unaware of the misunderstanding took to Reddit to rant.
‘I would be shocked if it’s 80% of Australian orders. It’s probably 80% of all orders globally which would include countries where it is normal,’ one wrote.
‘As a former dasher can confirm this is bull****, in the whole year I did it I received one tip which was a grand total of $2,’ a second added.
A third shared: ‘They’re just trying to get people to tip, by making them think everyone else does.
‘I can’t believe I have to say this, but do not f***ing tip. We are not America.’
Others labelled the expectation to tip as ‘UN-Australian’ and a ‘psychological trick’.
