An Australian scientist has revealed exactly what couples need to do to increase their chances of having a girl when conceiving.

Dr Karl Kruszelnicki, who has degrees in medicine and biomedical engineering, recently shared the tips during a live interview on Triple M’s Danny Lakey Show.   

The popular scientist, who continues to delight fans with zany social media posts and radio segments said research had found fighter pilots and men who go bald early on in life are more likely to have female children.

‘The sperm that make males are generally smaller and slightly fragile,’ he said,’ he added. 

The scientist made the revelation after Danny Lakey brought up the new NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet’s large, mostly female, family.

He asked if it was possible to have some men who only produce female sperm.

‘You also have to look at family history,’ Dr Karl said.

There are countless theories on how to conceive babies of a chosen gender, including when and how ‘to try’, however most are not backed by science.

One theory looks at the food women eat when trying to conceive and claims fish, eggs and green vegetables can help them to have a girl. 

The only way to choose your baby’s gender for sure is to go through IVF, however even then it is difficult as not all countries let parents choose their baby’s sex using the method. 

Which foods are thought to help women conceive a girl?

Healthline states the only scientifically backed way to conceive a girl is with IVF, however lists foods thought to help with having a girl.

Dairy products like milk, cheese and yogurt

Fortified breakfast cereals
