Dramatic moment cops rescue baby from second story of burning home – and five other members of her family

This is the moment police chiefs save a baby from a burning home in the middle of the night along with five of her family members.

Dramatic bodycam footage shows officers racing towards the property in Frankfort, Indiana, as they shout ‘we’re coming! we’re coming!’ before rescuing baby Aurora through the window of the second story. 

The family has now reunited with the heroic officers who insisted they were ‘just doing our job.’

Flames in front of the home made it impossible for the family to vacate the building themselves meaning they were stuck on the second floor and had to pass the baby girl through a second-story window.

The child – which was struggling to breathe due to the smoke – is passed in her car seat to officers on a ladder. 

The Frankfort Police Department said it received a call about the fire just before 2.10am on Monday.

Police bodycam footage has captured the astonishing moment a baby is saved from the second-story of a burning building

Officers were forced to find a ladder to rescue the family who were unable to vacate the property due to smoke filling the first floor

 ‘Can I have your kid, can I have your baby?’ the officer asks in the footage 

The caller said the house was ‘filled with fire and heavy smoke’ and that they were on the second floor and had no escape route. 

Relatives noted in the call that the child was struggling to breathe due to smoke inhalation.

Within one minute of the 911 call sergeant Andrew Snyder and officers Freddy Martinez and Madison Douglass were on the scene.

Snyder is seen quickly finding a ladder and putting it in front of the second-story window.

He speaks to the family through the window and directs them to pass the baby over.

‘Can I have your kid, can I have your baby?’ he asks in the footage.

Afterwards he guides the five others down a ladder to safety.

Douglass’s bodycam footage shows the officer rushing to the downstairs apartment and commanding them to quickly leave.

In the footage he is heard saying ‘Get out! Just get out!’

On social media one of the family members wrote: ‘My sister’s apartment caught on fire last night. Thank you, God, that everyone was saved. Thank you, Frankfort Police station, for being there,’

The three officers have been nominated a Medal of Valor – an award handed out to public safety officers who exhibited exceptional courage.

Captain Evan Hall said: ‘They all showed an extraordinary act of bravery by removing a total of six occupants out to safety under extreme stress and life-threatening conditions.’

The Frankfort Police Department and Fire Department are investigating the cause of the fire.
