A driver has been caught on camera running a red light and almost ploughing into oncoming traffic right in front of a police car.

Dash cam footage showed a truck turning right at the busy Milperra and Canterbury Road intersection in southwest Sydney on Friday.

The driver of the truck ran a red light to make the turn, and narrowly avoided a serious crash.

The truck continued through the intersection and suddenly skidded to a halt as oncoming traffic on the other side of the road began to move.

Moments later a Highway Patrol police car with its lights flashing cut in front of the car filming and behind the truck.

The truck driver pulled their car back around and continued travelling straight instead of turning right.

The police car followed closely behind the truck as it drove.

Social media users were in absolute shock over what had transpired before them.

‘I was so hoping he was going to reverse into the cop car,’ one person commented.

Dash cam footage showed a ute preparing to turn right at the busy Milperra and Canterbury Road intersection in south-west Sydney on Friday

Another said: ‘Some days this page scares the f*** out of me – who is issuing these idiots a licence.’

Others were more concerned about the other cars that had gone through the red light.

‘Sucks to be him – but he was the THIRD vehicle to go through the red light,’ one person said.

‘What the h*** is wrong with people? That truckie didn’t even hesitate – and it was perfectly safe for him to stop.’
