Driver tries to steal FDNY truck afte causing a car crash

Shocking video has captured a driver trying to steal an FDNY fire truck after causing a seven-car accident in Manhattan on Sunday.

The clip shows Devon Brandon, 36, dressed in a green T-shirt, arguing with firefighters in the front cab of the fire truck. 

He then frantically climbs into the driver’s seat as seven firefighters work to pull him out, causing the engine to shake.

The truck, which was stopped on 10th Avenue and 43rd Street, had been responding to the car accident when the incident occurred.

Crews had responded to the scene after Brandon, who was driving an Enterprise box truck, hit seven vehicles between 42nd and 44th Streets in the neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen around 1.40pm, the FDNY said.

Brandon abandoned his truck around 43rd Street and began yelling that someone was after him, according to witness Bill Walker, 53.

‘He was in a manic state. He jumped out of the truck screaming: ‘Help me, help me he’s chasing me,’ Walker told The New York Post.

Brandon then came irate and climbed into the fire truck and assaulted a member of the fire department who was sitting in the driver’s seat – slamming his head and body into the fire truck’s front console.

The truck’s horn is heard blowing as the crew mobs the door and manage to pull Brandon out.

After being removed from the truck, Brandon was taken to Bellevue Hospital for observation.

Police said that, in total, nine people were injured - including the truck driver and the assaulted firefighter. Five had minor injuries and three were listed as serious. None were pedestrians

Brandon was charged with felony reckless endangerment and assault, as well as drug-impaired driving, drug possession and refusing to take a breath test, police said

The Brooklyn man was a convicted gun dealer out on parole. Cocaine and marijuana was found on the floor of the rental truck and in Brandon’s backpack, reported the New York Daily News.
