A Ferrari driver has had a costly start to the beginning of the Chinese New Year after wrecking his $540,000 red Ferarri after New Year celebrations.

The 73-year-old driver had just left the Pan Pacific Singapore hotel in Singapore when he crashed his half million dollar Ferrari into a concrete gutter on Monday.

Coconuts Singapore reported that the male driver lost control of his vehicle as he left the hotel in the early hours of the morning before smashing into a concrete gutter and tearing off the front left side of the luxury sports car.

The crash left plants and pieces of concrete strewn across the road as emergency services rushed to close of the crash scene.

The Ferrari 488 GTB is valued between $415,000 to $540,000 straight off the showroom floor and was rated as the ‘best supercar ever from Ferrari’ by CarAdvice.

The colour red is closely associated with the Chinese New Year and in Chinese culture symbolises good fortune and joy.

However the elderly driver had very little of either in his red Ferrari and now has a huge bill to cover after his accident.

Pictures shared to Facebook page SG Road Vigilante showed the damage done to the half million dollar vehicle with some people quick to comment.

‘OMG,’ one user simply replied.

A new front bumper for a Ferrari 488 ranges between AUS$10,000 and AUS$20,000 and that doesn’t include the potential damage done to the underside of the car or its engine.
