Drug-addled man leads police on a bizarre rampage before jumping onto a roof with a knife and being talked down by officers

  • A 29-year-old man went on a rampage through Melbourne on Sunday night 
  • He was seen carrying a knife as he ran across backyards and climbed on roofs
  • Police managed to talk him down and he was taken to hospital for assessment 

A 29-year-old man went on a rampage, running across backyards and then climbing on roofs in a Melbourne suburb, before being talked down by police. 

Emergency crews were called after reports of a man behaving erratically while carrying a knife about 8.50pm on Sunday night in Keilor Downs. 

He, who appeared to be affected by drugs, is alleged to have damaged the door on a property in Malster Court.

He then ran through several backyards before climbing across the roofs of three houses. Police found him, without a knife, on a roof in Darebin Avenue.

They talked him down from the roof with the assistance of emergency services about 12.45am on Monday.

The man sustained minor injuries during the incident and was taken to hospital for assessment.
