Drunk dad, 31, arrested for putting his one-year-old son behind the wheel of his SUV

A drunk man allegedly put his one-year-old son behind the wheel of his SUV and allowed him to steer the vehicle, Minnesota police say.

Domonic Green, 31, has been charged with child endangerment and driving while intoxicated following the incident last Saturday night.

A witness alerted police after seeing Green driving with the infant in his lap in downtown Hopkins, a Minneapolis suburb.

‘When Green drove by, he was telling the child which way to turn the vehicle [right or left],’ the Hopkins Police Department said in a statement.

‘Thanks to an alert citizen notifying police to report this incident, a tragedy may have been avoided.’

Domonic Green, 31, was arrested on July 7 after a witness saw him giving instructions to his one-year-old son in the front seat of his SUV in downtown Hopkins, Minnesota

Police pulled Green over and noted that his eyes were bloodshot and watery, his speech slurred and movements ‘clumsy,’ according to the criminal complaint.

There was an open tequila bottle in the passenger seat, which Green said was not his, as well as a red plastic cup in the cup holder.

When asked how much he had to drink that day, Green replied: ‘I’m not even circumference [sic] to do that.’

The father said that his son wasn’t in his car seat because they were only driving around the block.

Police confirmed that Green lives around the corner from where he was arrested.

The Star Tribune reported that he has never had a valid Minnesota driver’s license.

Court records indicate that he pleaded guilty to drunk driving back in January five days before his latest arrest.

He was also charged with drunk driving, speeding and driving without a license following a December 30 police stop, but was only convicted for careless driving.

Green is currently being held in Hennepin County jail with bail set at $20,000.

He is scheduled to appear in court on August 9.
