Drunk passenger smashes into high-speed train cabin and tells driver to ‘slow down’ as he travelled at 200mph in France

A high-speed train passenger has been arrested after breaking into the driver’s cabin and telling him to ‘slow down’ before forcing a sudden stop using a fire extinguisher.

The drama unfolded on Sunday morning as the Inter-City Express (ICE) travelled at an average 200mph between Paris and Frankfurt.

‘The man had been drinking, and was convinced the train was going too fast and putting passengers’ lives in danger,’ said an investigating source.

‘He was screaming and shouting as he broke into the driver’s cabin and threatened staff with a fire extinguisher.’

The train made an emergency stop at the German town of Morfelden-Wallfort, 20 miles from Frankfurt, where the 30-year-old suspect was arrested.

He has not been named publicly, but police said he faced charges of ‘disrupting rail traffic and causing damage to property.’

A total of 18 trains were delayed by the unscheduled stop, which initially involved 220 passengers on the ICE, which is capable of a top speed of 226mph.
