The Los Angeles Police Department says the driver of the car, 30-year-old Wilfredo Vaquiz Escobar, was drunk at the time of the hit-and-run crash, which took place at 2.40am Sunday in the area of Central Avenue and 33rd Street near downtown LA.

According to a news release from the LAPD, Escobar was driving his 2017 white Honda Accord with six passengers inside at ‘unsafe’ speeds of 80-100mph when he lost control, causing the vehicle to spin out.

The out-of-control sedan plowed into six parked cars, which were either damaged or completely destroyed, leaving twisted debris scattered in the street.

The initial impact of the collision caused one of Escobar’s male passengers to be ejected from his seat. The man skidded 80 feet before coming to rest in the road.

The unnamed victim was hospitalized with severe head trauma, along with another passenger from Escobar’s car, reported KABC.

Of the seven people riding in the Honda, only one was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Escobar was ordered held on $100,000 bail pending his arraignment scheduled for Wednesday.
