Duke and Duchess of Sussex set to be given a suite of rooms at Buckingham Palace as a Central London base

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are to be given a suite of rooms at Buckingham Palace as a Central London base.

Harry and Meghan recently moved from a two-bedroom property at Kensington Palace to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, which became their official residence.

And last month it was announced that they would be splitting courts from the Cambridges and moving their offices to Buckingham Palace.

Now they will take on accommodation there, too, although which exact quarters they will be given has not yet been decided.

A source stressed that it is standard procedure for Royals living outside the capital but with Central London offices to be given somewhere they can stay. Princes Andrew and Edward are among those with accommodation in the Palace.

While Windsor is less than 30 miles from London, the route is often plagued with traffic and a London base will make life much easier for the couple when carrying out engagements in the capital.

When Harry and Meghan moved to Frogmore Cottage earlier this year, there had been no property available in Central London suitable for a family home.

Taxpayers funded an estimated £3 million structural renovations, while £50,000 was spent to soundproof the home from planes flying in to nearby Heathrow Airport.

The couple paid for the furnishings themselves – bringing in Soho House designer Vicky Charles to style the interior.

Features of the ten-bedroom property include a nursery decorated with vegan paint in neutral greys and white, and a yoga studio.

Frogmore Cottage – where the Sussexes had their wedding reception – has been part of the Royal Family’s history ever since it was built for Queen Charlotte, wife of King George III, in 1801.

It was also used by Queen Victoria and was the home of her secretary, Abdul Karim.

The Sussexes are expected to have their Buckingham Palace rooms by the end of the year.
