Dunkin’ announces the return of its back pumpkin-flavored coffee drinks on August 19

Pumpkin spice season is about to begin — more than a month before the first day of fall

Dunkin’ has announced that it is bringing back its pumpkin-flavored coffee and espresso drinks on August 19, earlier than it ever has before.

The drinks, which will be available for a limited time, include a new pumpkin spice latte — available hot or iced — as well as a pumpkin-flavored syrup that can be added to coffee, cold brew, a chai late, frozen coffee, and frozen chocolate.

Last year, Dunkin’ debuted a Cinnamon Sugar Pumpkin latte on August 21 — and though some people thought that was too early, demand was clearly high enough that the brand is switching to fall flavors even sooner this year.

‘This is one of the most anticipated times of the year for Dunkin’ guests, and we’re excited to make pumpkin favorites available at Dunkin’ restaurants earlier than ever,’ Jill Nelson, Vice President, Marketing Strategy at Dunkin’, said in a press release.

‘This year, we have an especially robust menu of new products with something for everyone — from craveable bakery items to snacks and sandwiches that pair perfectly with our seasonal lattes and coffees.’

In addition to a pumpkin swirl that can be added to any drink, Dunkin’ has a new PSL that ‘combines rich, smooth espresso with pumpkin and vanilla flavors’ and is topped with whipped cream, a caramel drizzle, and cinnamon sugar topping.

The chain is also adding several fall-themed treats to its menu, including apple cider doughnuts and munchkins, a maple sugar bacon breakfast sandwich, and pumpkin-flavored donuts, munchkins, and muffins.

Other new items include Stuffed Bagel Minis, Steak & Cheese Rollups, and Maple Sugar Seasoned Snackin’ Bacon.

The PSL news has already earned some public commentary, with Savannah Guthrie saying on the Today show that she thinks it’s just a bit too soon.

‘I like pumpkin spice. But there should be a rule, if it’s over 100 degrees, anywhere in the United States, it’s too early,’ she said.

Quite a few social media users are thrilled about the news, though, writing that they’re ‘super excited’ and it’s ‘all of the positivity I needed.’

Some lucky customers have even managed to get their hands on pumpkin drinks from their local Dunkin’ a week early.

Meanwhile, Business Insider reports that Starbucks is is planning to bring back its Pumpkin Spice Latte on August 25.

The site got ahold of an internal memo listing the launch date, the earliest ever for Starbucks.

Like Dunkin’, Starbucks return to pumpkin has been inching up earlier the past few years. For some time, the chain had brought back the drink on the Tuesday after Labor Day — but it bumped it up to August 28 in 2018 and August 27 in 2019.

Starbucks has yet to officially announce the return date.
