Poirier defeated McGregor in a stunning knock-out victory in January to tee up a third fight following the Irishman’s 2014 win.

The winner of the bout will get a title shot against the victor of Michael Chandler’s clash with Charles Oliveira in May.

McGregor, meanwhile, has verbally agreed to the bout and has been training in Dubai in recent weeks.

The deal is expected to be one of the most lucrative in UFC history, with Poirier turning down a potential title shot following Khabib Nurmagomedov’s retirement in order to sign to fight the Notorious.

Talks over a blockbuster third fight between the pair had been ongoing since Poirier ruined McGregor’s latest comeback with a shock KO win in January.

UFC President Dana White had previously revealed he wanted Poirier-McGregor III to be a headline summer fight, with hopes they may be able to have large crowds back in the arena by then.

McGregor won his first fight with Poirier at 145lbs in 2014, but suffered a second round knockout during the rematch at 155lbs earlier this year.

The trilogy bout is expected to be a five-round main event at 155lbs at UFC 264.
