Dying words of man who was found burned near Newcastle

A father-of-two who was found on fire at the side of a road before he died used his last words to reveal that he knew who attacked him.

Taxi driver James Madden was driving along Oakdale Road at Whitebridge, south of Newcastle, at 1am on Monday when he found a 23-year-old man severely burned.

The man has been identified as Wade Still.

Mr Madden told 7News: ‘He was saying, “I’m dying, I’m dying”. It was terrible.’   

The father was blistered and had little clothing left on him.

Mr Madden had left home at 11.30pm to buy petrol with his friends.

He told police that he knew who had hurt him before he died while being airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital. 

Mr Still’s girlfriend, Paige Millan, woke up to a phone call from police before they picked her up at her home.

Addressing media about the tragic incident, a police officer said: ‘The investigation is in its early stage.

‘We are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.

‘Any information you may have, no matter how small, may be the missing piece of the puzzle we need.’

A woman was seen walking along the stretch of road late at night.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area or have dash cam footage to come forward.
