1. Break out the liquid gold

With countless years under her belt as a renovation expert, Cherie said she is ‘yet to find anything that beats the power of paint to completely overhaul the look of a property’.

‘The bonus is that you don’t need the disruption of tradies or a big budget,’ she said on her website.

Instead, she recommends you choose your colour palette carefully and get involved with the brushes and rollers yourself.

She used the example of one recent renovation, which was based primarily on painting and resulted in a $35,000 profit.

‘So imagine what a weekend of intensive painting can do for your place,’ she said.

2. Use specialty paints to update a kitchen or bathroom

If Cherie said you are yet to be convinced about the killer power of paint, you only need to look at her dozens on renovations over the years using specialty paints and re-surfacing products.

She said that in 2019, you can revamp tiles, benchtops, baths and appliances with products from companies like White Knight and Rust-Oleum.

And even better, they will only cost you a few hundred dollars.

Cherie used the example of a kitchen makeover she carried out, which was done in a weekend with a $1,000 budget.

Try it in your own home and watch the value soar.

3. Try an easy flooring option

‘Vinyl flooring is the magic bullet,’ she said.

‘You can just lay it straight over the top of any solid substrate, and these Gerflor planks from Bunnings are even waterproof, so you can extend them to the bathroom and kitchen.’

4. Improve your entranceway

Work on de-cluttering, tidying, cleaning and repairing your entranceway to make it look better.

Cherie also recommends going over the path with a high-pressure hose to ‘strip decades off most old surfaces’, and she said paving paint can also work well with ugly bare concrete driveways.

Think about new plants, an updated letterbox or a nice new house number.

She said it’s always the little things that make the most impact.

5. Bump up the storage

Everyone knows the importance of storage, but still so many of us don’t have enough of it.

Cherie said to think about installing more – whether it’s some well-placed shelving or a new wardrobe – and get rid of any clutter that is cheapening your home.

‘The likes of Bunnings, Howard’s Storage World or IKEA have dozens of storage solutions,’ she said.
