Ed Reed calls out Shannon Sharpe and exposes their Instagram DMs

‘You got your story wrong’: Baltimore Ravens legend Ed Reed calls out Shannon Sharpe and exposes their Instagram DMs after Fox Sports host was left bemused as to why coach walked away from Bethune-Cookman

Pro Football Hall of Famer Ed Reed has publicly shared his private conversation with Shannon Sharpe and called him out after he turned down the opportunity to coach football at a HBCU.

Reed said earlier this week that he will not ratify his contract with Bethune-Cookman, leading him to being dismissed by the school after it had announced that it had an  initial agreement on a deal with the former safety.

Prior to his ousting, the Super Bowl champion publicly voiced his criticism on the condition of the school’s athletic facilities on an Instagram live stream. He then claimed that he wasn’t ‘withdrawing my name as they say. They don’t want me here. They do not want me because I tell the truth.’

On Wednesday, Sharpe said he didn’t understand Reed’s expectations of the job on ‘Undisputed’, though he claimed the Ravens legend was the greatest NFL safety of all time.

‘A lot of HBCUS are underfunded. I don’t know what Ed thought. That ain’t The U [of Miami] Ed,’ the three-time Super Bowl champion said. ‘That’s not a power five bruh. They don’t have donors that give back $30-40million.’

Sharpe knows all about playing football for an under-funded school from his time at Savannah State in Georgia, another HBCU, before being drafted in the NFL.

He added ‘What is Ed thinking? Most HBCUs are like this. I get Ed’s passions, and asking to clean the offices… But I wish he had gone to admin. I wish he hadn’t gone public with it, put it on Instagram Live, just to go to admin and say ”Guys, this is unacceptable. I shouldn’t have my players picking up trash.”’

In response, Reed told Sharpe on Instagram: ‘Put the Hennessy down and come holla at me. You want to yell across the court at basketball players? I’m yelling across IG. Straight up. Cause you got your story wrong. These youngsters are out here hurting, and one of them used to be you.’

He then shared the direct messages that he had exchanged with the Broncos great.

‘Bro, I support you, IF* you took offense to anything I said. I apologize,’ Sharpe wrote to Reed. ‘Think you’re going to make a helluva coach. God didn’t think that was the right situation for you. All the best.’

Reed replied: ‘Naw bruh that’s not it. God did. You said a lot of wrong about me playa.’

‘Like what,’ Sharpe asked.

‘Let’s talk. Naw you did this on TV let us talk. Sit in your spot,’ then said Reed.

Sharpe, however, didn’t seem want to take the conversation any further, leaving it at: ‘ED, I voiced an opinion. It’s not that deep. Wish you all the best, but I’m done with this.’

Playing in the NCAA D1’s SAC, Bethune-Cookman fired Terry Sims after a 2-9 overall record at the end of the 2022 season. They are yet to find a replacement.
