Ed Sheeran swaps jeans for a sexy Santa outfit in new Christmas duet with Elton John

Elton John and Ed Sheeran wowed fans as they packed on the festive cheer in their glittering video for their new charity single, Merry Christmas, on Friday. 

The pair re-created scenes from iconic videos, including Wham’s Last Christmas,  Shakin’ Stevens’ Merry Christmas, The Snowman’s Walking in the Air and East 17’s Stay Another Day as they surprised fans with cameos from their famous friends.  

The A-team hitmaker, 30, really got into the festive spirit as he slipped into a sexy Santa outfit and swayed his hips back and forth while Elton, 74, tinkled the ivories surrounded by lavish decorations.

Directed by Jason Koenig, the video sees Ed and Elton pair their uplifting arrangements and joyous harmonies to ring in the Christmas season. 

The track features heart-warming lyrics, with the duo singing: ‘So kiss me under the mistletoe pour out the wine let’s toast and pray for December snow. 

‘I know there’s been pain this year but it’s time to let it go. Next year you never know, but for now, Merry Christmas.’ 

After crooning around the piano, Ed takes to the skies as he launches into the air with The Snowman as they recreate the iconic Walking In The Air moment.

Ed then channeled Elton’s fashion sense as he donned a sparkley aqua coat and oversized glasses as they sang together in the snow-covered forest. 

They were given a helping hand by rock band The Darkness, who played in the background while a winter Mr Blobby danced along. 

And that wasn’t the end of the A-list cameos as Ed was then joined by Jonathan Ross, Big Narstie, and Michael McIntyre to re-create East 17’s Stay Another Day.

The stars looked hilarious in the black and white footage as they pouted at the camera in fluffy outerwear and sang passionately as a group. 

Culminating in a huge Christmas celebration, the video’s cast then came together around Elton’s piano to sing as one. 

With elaborate decorations, a troupe of festive dancers, and plenty of cheer, the song came to a stunning finish, with Ed sprawled across the piano.

However, they have scored the coveted Christmas No.1 spot individually in the past, with Ed topping the charts with his ballad Perfect and Elton securing the spot with his 1973 classic Step Into Christmas. 

Getting in the giving spirit, the stars are donating the publishing royalties and sales profits from the single to Ed’s Suffolk Music Foundation and Elton’s AIDS Foundation. 

The heart-warming video for Merry Christmas was scripted by Jason Koenig, Jenny Koenig and Ed and pays homage to a selection of fan favourite music videos.
