Editor’s Picks: 5 super-smart updates

5 super-smart updates. The key pieces that shout ‘autumn!’

Leather Jacket, £149.99; Jumper, £19.99, and Earrings, £12.99, shop.mango.com

 1. Leather is set to be a super-sleek staple. I love Mango’s luxe take on the vintage biker style with a fashion-forward tie waist (right). This will be my transitional jacket for now and, come winter, I’ll be layering it under a wool coat to embrace the double outerwear trend.

 2. A leopard-print dress is an autumn essential (see overleaf for our animal-print fashion story), and I’m pleased to see that the high street is full of affordable, easy-to-wear options. This one from Warehouse strikes a good balance between classic and trend-led. Ideal for layering with boots, jumpers and jackets.

3. New season, new bag! Wandler is my favourite up-and-coming brand for investment pieces that feel special but won’t break the bank. I love this shoulder bag – which has an adjustable strap that can be worn long or short – and the modern mix of black and tan means that it will go with everything in my A/W wardrobe.

4. These trousers are my ‘bubble breaker’ – ie, the piece that will push me out of my wardrobe comfort zone. I’m 5ft 2in, so I usually steer clear of a wide leg, but worn with heels, these are surprisingly flattering. Pale blue will pep up my perennial autumn palette of browns and burgundies. And can I pull off corduroy? It’s the trend of the moment so, yes, of course I can!

5. With so many boot styles to choose from, it’s hard to pick just one go-to pair, but these, from Hobbs, will do the trick. In classic black leather they’ll go with everything, while the Western styling hits the mark for A/W 18. I’ll be pairing them with midi dresses and silky skirts worn with knits.
