Elephant calf that fell into river in Kenya is wrapped up

Adorable photos show an elephant calf wrapped in blankets after being rescued from a crocodile-infested river in Kenya.

Ten-day-old Ewaso was plucked from the Ewaso Nyiro river in the Samburu National Reserve by rescuers.

The female had lost her mother and was seen running along the riverbank in panic before jumping into the water, according to reports.

Staff from the nearby Elephant Camp lodgings saw the youngster struggling and bravely jumped into the river. 

Save the Elephants then helped to airlift the creature to the Reteti elephant sanctuary.

Meanwhile, rescuers are desperately searching for the calf’s mother. 

In an update, the sanctuary said: ‘Ewaso was saved from a flooded Ewaso Ng’iro River by brave staff and guests at the nearby Elephant Bedroom Camp.

‘She is a lovely little character with charisma and spirit. 

‘The other day, when it began to rain, she had to be brought inside. She did not like it at all, so she went around trumpeting at everyone.

‘Then, when the rain stopped, she went barreling outside with her keeper.’
