With her enviable figure and glowing complexion, Australian supermodel Elle Macpherson is an inspiration for thousands of women the world over. 

And now, the 53-year-old mother, who follows the alkaline diet, has shared the secrets to her famous physique and revealed her typical day on a plate. 

Speaking to PopSugar, Elle said her breakfast is usually a poached egg on sunflower or rye bread or oatmeal with half a grapefruit followed by a glass of filtered water with her ‘The Super Elixir’ powder.

Simone said that those who follow the diet, including Elle, tried to avoid red meat, wheat, dairy, sugar and processed food while possible to ‘create the optimal pH balance in the body’. 

They try to eat clean 80 per cent of the week and relax the diet for 20 per cent of the week. 

‘Pure alkaline would be too tricky. ‘It’s about trying to have whole foods that come from nature. We can’t all live on smoothies, we can’t all do yoga 24/7 and hold down a job,’ she said.
