Elliot Page recalls going on double date with Leonardo DiCaprio and his mother after forming ‘lovely connection’ with friend of the Titanic star

Elliot Page has described going on a double date with Leonardo DiCaprio and his mother after forming a ‘lovely connection’ with a friend of the Titanic actor.

Page, 36, wrote about his brief relationship with Leonardo’s pal in his memoir Pageboy, recalling how the man came to visit DiCaprio on the set of their 2010 film Inception.

At the time, Page had not yet come out as transgender or gay. The star, formerly Ellen Page, came out as gay in 2014 and then as a transgender man six years later.

‘While filming Inception, a friend of Leonardo DiCaprio’s visited and we had a lovely connection,’ Page wrote.

‘Peter was warm to everyone, eyes beaming with care. When I saw Leo next, I told him I liked his friend, to which he responded that his friend liked me, too.’

‘For our first date we went to Universal Studios with Leo and his mother. Peter and I sat close on the rides, our thighs just touching.’

At the time, the actor said his mother Martha was ‘over the moon’ to learn Page was in a relationship with a man, after previously vocalizing some dismay over his romances with women. It’s unclear if ‘Peter’ is the man’s real name.

The relationship was short-lived, and lasted for just ‘a month, maybe two, like high school all over again,’ Page recalled.

Page also said he developed shingles while filming the 2010 thriller.

‘Shingles popped out of my spine while filming Inception when I was 22,’ he said. ‘In a cast full of cis men, I did not understand the role I found myself in. Despite everyone being delightful to work with, I felt out of place.

‘For the first two weeks of the film I joked I would be recast with Keira Knightly, and rightfully so. Shingles communicated the stress my body felt, what my words could not.’

The two-time Emmy-nominated producer came out as a lesbian in 2014 during a speech at the Human Rights Campaign’s ‘Time to Thrive’ conference in Las Vegas.

In December 2020, Page then came out as transgender, posting to social media: ‘Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot.

‘I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life. I feel overwhelming gratitude for the incredible people who have supported me along this journey. I can’t begin to express how remarkable it feels to finally love who I am enough to pursue my authentic self. I’ve been endlessly inspired by so many in the trans community.

‘Thank you for your courage, your generosity and ceaselessly working to make this world a more inclusive and compassionate place. I will offer whatever support I can and continue to strive for a more loving and equal society.’

Page kicked off his nine-date international book tour on June 6 at The Town Hall in Midtown Manhattan, and future dates will be announced soon.

It’s unclear if Page is still dating non-binary comedian Mae Martin after the pair got matching tattoos and suited up for the 11th Annual LACMA Art + Film Gala on November 5.

Page’s divorce from Canadian dancer Emma Portner was finalized in 2021 after two years of marriage.
