Elon Musk mocked for ‘Apple-induced meltdown from an iPhone’ after he tweets about the App Store

Elon Musk was mocked for tweeting his complaints about the fees Apple charges in its App Store – from his iPhone. 

The Chief Twit tweeted about Tim Cook’s company multiple times this week to blast Apple for what he claims is censorship.

Although some users agreed with Musk’s complaints, others appreciated the humor of the Tesla CEO’s tweets all being followed by the words ‘Twitter for iPhone.’

A user named Caroline Orr Bueno wrote: ‘I love that Elon Musk is tweeting his Apple-induced meltdown from an iPhone.’

Musk tweeted that Apple’s advertising decision was evidence that they ‘hate free speech.’ Apple has not responded to the mogul’s claims yet

‘The best part is that his fanboys are ready to smash their iPhones in some weird form of worship, but even Elon Musk knows that Apple makes the best phones and isn’t going to part with his,’ she said in a follow up tweet.

‘I don’t know if attacking a company is the best way to get them to advertise with you,’ one user quipped with a gif showing the words ‘probably not’ in all caps. 

‘Elon Musk hates Apple so much he’s been tweeting about the company all day FROM HIS IPHONE,’ wrote Twitter user Jack Cocchiarella 

‘Just hilarious! It’s peak Elon 2022. Complaining about Apple on an iPhone’ another user wrote, adding a laughing face emoji. 

A different user wrote: ‘Nothing says “own Apple” [like] using their products to slander them.’

‘Watching Elon Musk’s self-destruction has been fascinating. It’s like watching the Hindenburg in slow motion,’ another user wrote, in reference to the German airship that was destroyed in a fiery crash in New Jersey in 1937.

‘Platform tyrant angrily ranting about platform tyranny. It’s only okay if I do it, shakes fist! Look at how angry you should be at me, grrrrr!’ another user wrote with a laughing emoji.

‘Apple has mostly stopped advertising on Twitter. Do they hate free speech in America?’ Musk wrote on Monday and added, ‘What’s going on here Tim Cook?’

Apple is one of at least 50 companies to pause or completely stop all advertising on Twitter since Musk took over a few weeks ago. Apple was Twitter’s biggest advertiser in the first quarter, accounting for more than 4% of the latter’s revenue through its $48 million worth of ads, according to the Washington Post. 

‘Apple has also threatened to withhold Twitter from its App Store, but won’t tell us why,’ another Musk tweet claimed.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman asked Musk how Apple had communicated that, but the world’s wealthiest person did not respond to his inquiry. 

‘Apple puts a secret 30% tax on everything you buy through their App Store.’ Musk added.

Under the App Store rules, Apple gets a 30% cut of any revenue Twitter generates through iOS-enabled mobile devices. This embedded fee is what prompted Fortnite’s Epic Games to take Apple to court.

While Apple has not responded to Musk’s tweets, Cook told CBS News that Twitter execs ‘say that they are going to continue to moderate’ and he was ‘counting on’ them to do so.

However, Musk has made a number of changes since taking over that include welcoming back former President Trump, as well as granting ‘amnesty’ to a half-dozen other suspended accounts, including Steve Bannon, far-right activist Tommy Robinson and far-right commentator Katie Hopkins.

Twitter users have said the platform is filled with more racist and anti-Semitic rhetoric and spam messages since Musk’s takeover. 

‘As soon as he took over Twitter, we saw extremists trying to exploit the platform, we’ve seen hate of all kinds increase,’ Oren Segal, vice president of the Anti-Defamation League’s Center on Extremism, told Vice News. 

Earlier this week, Musk shared slides from a presentation claiming to show that hate speech impressions on the platform are actually lower since his takeover. 

Not everyone was on board with Musk’s threats regarding Apple. 

Fellow billionaire Mark Cuban wrote: ‘Come on @elonmusk. We all know what free speech re the gov is because we can read the 1st Amendment and any related case law. We have no idea what Free Speech on Twitter is because you are judge and jury. There is no transparency. When do we see the @twitter Bill of Rights?’

If Apple decided to pull Musk’s social network from the App Store, it would be a fatal blow to the mogul’s plans for bringing Twitter to profitability and turning it into an ‘everything’ app where users could post long-form content, creators can get paid and users can send money or make other purchases.
