Emma Watkins discusses the ‘severity’ of her endometriosis

Yellow Wiggle Emma Watkins has admitted she ‘freaked out’ ahead of her operation in April to treat endometriosis.

The children’s performer told Weekend the ‘severity’ of her condition – which causes painful and irregular periods – only hit her when she lost so much blood that doctors were forced to give her an iron transfusion.

The 28-year-old also happily revealed that she is recovering so well she has already returned to performing with The Wiggles.

Discussing her operation in the interview on Friday, she said: ‘What was freaking me out leading up to the surgery was I was starting to feel not great doing lots of shows.

‘I lost so much blood I had an infusion, and that’s when it started to hit me. I had had really bad periods since school pretty much, but when the doctors are actually in there, they can see the severity.

‘It seemed worse than I had thought, and they thought as well.’

Emma has had several weeks of rest and is now back on The Wiggles set, gushing that it’s ‘lovely’ to be dancing again.

She predicted her fitness may have helped her recovery so speedily from the major surgery.

She is in such a good condition that she will even join the group on their US tour, taking part fully in the performances – minus any moves that involve a back bend,

As a stage four sufferer of endometriosis, she will need to be monitored and possibly treated again to ensure the condition doesn’t worsen.

Endometriosis occurs when tissue forms outside the uterus, causing painful and irregular periods.

It can affect fertility in its most severe cases – a problem for Emma as she and husband, Purple Wiggle Lachlan Gillespie, are trying for a baby.

Emma underwent surgery for endometriosis in April. Weeks later, shared a touching update for her supporters as she recovered from the procedure in hospital.

‘Thank you for all the well wishes. Operation went well and now in recovery,’ she wrote in the photo’s caption.

Emma appeared on the Today show earlier this year and said her husband Lachlan Gillespie, and the rest of the team concerned.

‘We are all a big family and everyone is here to support me and the rest of the group, and I am really thankful for that,’ she added.
