Emotional David Spade hugs a friend in the street after Kate’s death

Kate Spade’s brother-in-law, David Spade, appeared beside himself as he stepped out in Los Angeles Tuesday afternoon, hours after the designer’s shocking suicide.

The comedian and sibling to Kate’s husband, Andy Spade, shared a tender hug with an unknown woman in a parking lot before the pair went their separate ways.

The ‘Tommy Boy’ star, 53, was spotted for the first time since the tragic news broke about the handbag icon’s suicide that took place inside her Park Avenue home early Tuesday.

David kept obscure in appearance while wearing sunglasses, a hat and leisurewear after stepping out in public.

The television personality seeminly shared a close relationship with the late businesswoman, 55, who hanged herself with a scarf from a door before her body was found by a housekeeper.

Law enforcement officials have ruled Kate’s death a suicide.

David’s older brother and Kate’s spouse of 24 years, Andy, was said to have been in the family home at the time of the unexpected tragedy.

The mother-of-one left behind a suicide note solely addressed to her 13-year-old daughter, Frances Beatrix, according to TMZ.

The letter, found by law enforcement officials on a bed near Kate’s body, read: ‘Bea – I have always loved you. This is not your fault. Ask Daddy!’ 

Distraught loved ones to the late fashionista released a statement Tuesday that read: ‘We are all devastated by today’s tragedy. We loved Kate dearly and will miss her terribly.

Together, Kate and Andy launched the trendy fashion brand widely recognized as Kate Spade New York in January 1993.

The brand, which started out as a handbag line, expanded in following years, and included clothing and accessories.

Andy also launched a men’s bag collection, Jack Spade, in 1996. The brand is currently sold at high-end shops such as Barneys.

The designer duo sold their line to Neiman Marcus in 2006, before the brand sold the collection to Liz Claiborne, who rebranded the line to Kate Spade & Company.

And two years, ago, Kate and Andy launched a modern footwear, handbag and accessories line, Frances Valentine, which is sold at stores like Saks Fifth Avenue and DSW.

Executives for Kate Spade and Company released a statement later on Tuesday.

‘Kate has not been affiliated with the brand for more than a decade, she and her husband and creative partner, Andy, were the founders of our beloved brand. Kate will be dearly missed,’ the statement read.

‘Our thoughts are with Andy and the entire Spade family at this time.’
