England cricket star Ollie Pope revealed to have filmed furious woman who abused players in Sydney

The man who filmed a Lycra-clad woman storming onto a cricket pitch and demanding players stop hogging the turf so she could get on with her own workout has been revealed to be an international sports star.

In November last year, 20-year-old Ollie Pope filmed the woman at Trumper Park in Paddington, Sydney, hurling obscenities at a group of players because she was unable to exercise on the grass.

At the time, Pope was playing first-grade cricket in Sydney – but now he plays for England.

In the video, which was originally posted to Pope’s Twitter, the woman can be seen marching across the oval in the middle of the game to yell at the club official.

‘I live in that unit… I hear it every Saturday. Why can’t I walk or do my exercise?’ she said.

She then wildly gesticulated while yelling at one of the men who appeared to be trying to calmly remove her from the field.

As the woman – who was decked out in exercise gear – stormed through the match, the players awkwardly watched on while some jeered at her to ‘go home’.

‘Do you want to be hit by a cricket ball, love?’ a female voice can be heard in the background.

As she walked back across the oval the woman then yelled: ‘I do sit-ups over there in my backyard.’

The club official then informed her the team had paid money for exclusive use of the oval, to which she retorted: ‘And I don’t pay rates?’

After several tense moments and laughter erupting from the audience of cricket players, the woman left – but not without landing one last insult.

‘Bunch of testosterone… get off [the field]. Don’t you have any manners?’ she said.

It wasn’t caught on film, but Mr Pope said her parting words to the players were: ‘I hope you all get sunburnt.’

The Englishman has had a rapid ascent within cricket and was called into England’s squad for the second Test against India at Lord’s starting Thursday.

Just nine months ago he was plying his trade in the Sydney grade competition, where he scored nearly 1000 runs, including three hundreds.

Pope credited his time in Australia for accelerating his progress as a professional cricketer.

‘Obviously I did the right things at the club, and they enjoyed having me,’ he told reporters at Lord’s on Tuesday.

‘(But) it’s a massive thing for a young lad to do, especially when you’re just finding your way in the game.

‘Being on your own two feet and getting to know your strengths and weaknesses, learning from your dismissals and the games you play well in.

‘I did learn to fend for myself a bit more. It was a pretty invaluable experience.’
