ENGLAND MATCH RATINGS: Ben Stokes felt no pressure yet again with match-winning half-century

England are T20 World Champions after chasing down Pakistan’s 137 run total at the world cup final inside Melbourne’s MCG stadium.

Captain Jos Buttler led his side to their first T20 white ball world title in 12 years as England redeemed themselves from their 2016 final capitualation against the West Indies.

England won the toss and decided to send Pakistan to the crease. Player of the tournament Sam Curran starred with the ball on a difficult wicket by taking three wickets from four overs and restricting Pakistan to 137 runs.

Alex Hales got England off to a nervy star after being dismissed on his second delivery before Buttler, Ben Stokes, and Moeen Ali produced stunning efforts with the bat to chase down Pakistan with one over left.

Sportsmail rates the England players’ performances after their title-winning performance.

Jos Buttler

Won the toss and opted to bowl first as England set about chasing down Pakistan at Melbourne’s MCG Stadium, the obvious choice given his side’s ability to break targets. 138 was an achievable target to clinch World Cup glory, they had chased down 172 when the two sides met at the end of September.

England’s skipper helped steady the ship as England emerged to bat with fellow opener Alex Hales dismissed after facing just two balls. Buttler held back from unleashing at will as he added 26 runs to England’s total before being caught by Mohammad Rizwan. 7/10

Alex Hales

If Hales could have replicated his sensational performance that saw him and captain Buttler made history with their 170/0 run chase in the semi-final against India, then Sunday’s final would have been a lot more comfortable.

Unfortunately Hales produced his lowest score of the tournament after being bowled out by Shaheen Afridi for 1 run. The wicked ball forced its way through the space between bat and pad to light the bails up. 3/10

Phil Salt

Was called into action a lot earlier than he was probably expecting after not even making it onto wicket in England’s dismantling of India.

Against Pakistan Salt demonstrated clear intent to try and find boundaries but had to limit his shot choices to avoid what could have been a disastrous start for England’s innings. Managed 10 runs from 9 deliveries. 6/10

Ben Stokes

Opened the final under the floodlights by gifting Pakistan two free hits after following up a no ball delivery with a wide. Fortunately their opposition couldn’t make anything of the opportunity. Ended his bowling session with one wicket after going for 32 runs.

Performed when it mattered most at the crease for England as he hit the winning runs to make England T20 world champions by recording his first-ever 50 in international T20 cricket. Finished his innings 52 not out. 8/10

Harry Brook

The 23-year-old had to manage a tricky spell with the bat as England attempt to cement a high run rate at the wicket. Played his way to a steady 23 runs before looping a strike to long-off and the waiting Afridi.

The Pakistan bowler hurt himself in the process as Pakistan found a much-needed breakthrough and was unable to carry on in the match. 7/10

Moeen Ali

Wasn’t required by captain Buttler with the ball as England’s bowlers stunned Pakistan, limiting them to 137/8 after 20 overs. But it was Ali’s match-winning performance with bat in hand that made the difference.

Made his way to the crease with England needing 53 runs on their way to victory in Melbourne, and dominated Pakistan’s bowlers as he romped to 19 runs from runs from 13 deliveries. Flashed his hands at a yorker to try and win the game in the 18th over and was found out. 8/10

Liam Livingstone

Finished at the crease to clinch victory with Stokes on one run after managing to get off strike. Gave away far too many runs in his solo over with the ball in hand as he was dispatched for 16 runs.

Redeemed himself by managing three catches as England’s bowlers dominated at the wicket. 6/10

Sam Curran

Player of the tournament, player of the match, and now T20 world champion, this match was Sam Curran’s limelight moment. Took three wickets from four overs, stunting Pakistan to just 12 runs in the process.

Ben Stokes paid homage to Curran’s epic bowling performance as he credited his 24-year-old teammate for winning the match for England. Didn’t bat. 9/10

Chris Woakes

Passed a late fitness test on Saturday evening to be declared fit to play against Pakistan in the World Cup final but struggled to get a wicket with the ball on a tricky wicket.

Gave away 26 runs from three overs with an overall economy rate of 8.67. Fielded well and caught Shadab Khan on 20 runs. 6/10

Chris Jordan

Produced a brilliant pace bowling session to help steer Pakistan’s batsmen away from boundaries and navigate England towards an achievable run chase.

Didn’t need to bat but took two wickets from four overs as he handed catches off Shadab Khan and Mohammad Wasim. 7/10

Adil Rashid

Didn’t produce any stellar moments in the final against Pakistan but was steady with the ball as England became the only team in history to hold both the ODI and T20 world titles at the same time.

Bowled and caught Pakistan captain Babar Azam who was making headway on 38 runs. 7/10
