England vs India LIVE – fourth Test, day two: Follow all the action from the Ageas Bowl
Stuart Broad provided England with their badly-needed early breakthrough on the second morning of the fourth Specsavers Test.
As India replied to the hosts’ under-par 246 all out, Broad made short work of opener KL Rahul in a reply which moved from an overnight 19 without loss to 37 for one.
Rahul was defeated on the front-foot defence, a sixth lbw victim of the match confirmed via DRS after the tourists chanced a review.
It required a gutsy 78 from the recalled Surrey all-rounder Sam Curran to push the hosts to a credible 246 all out on day one after they had earlier slipped to 36 for four and 86 for six.
There were failures with the bat by Alastair Cook, Keaton Jennings, Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow as England’s upper order capitulated in the face of India’s aggressive seam bowlers.
It too Curran to steer them to a respectable total as he made a mockery of the decision to drop him for the third Test defeat at Trent Bridge.
