England’s Mason Mount, Jack Grealish, Kalvin Phillips jet off to Mykonos for post-Euro 2020 holidays

Several England stars, including Mason Mount, Jack Grealish and Kalvin Phillips, have all ventured out to Mykonos for their post-Euro 2020 holidays – the same island where Harry Maguire was arrested last summer for a street fight.

The Three Lions stars reached the final of the summer tournament, where they lost to Italy via a cruel penalty shootout, and will now have a few weeks off before they join up with their Premier League clubs for the start of the new season in August.

Midfielder Mount, who played a significant role in England’s route to the final, was seen partying in the background of former Love Island star Josh Denzel’s Instagram story at the Principote Beach Club on Thursday night, which is visited by several celebrities, including England international Dele Alli. Denzel was the main presenter of the daily Three Lions show that was run by the official England media team throughout the tournament.

Meanwhile, Grealish and Three Lions team-mate Ben Chilwell, who are both part of the ‘Avengers’ friendship group that includes fellow footballers James Maddison, Ross Barkley and John McGinn, were photographed together on the Greek island.

Grealish, a popular member of the England squad, also posed for photographs in other Instagram stories. The 25-year-old appears to have been partying ever since he was relieved from Three Lions duty, as he photographed himself taking shots the day after the final.

Meanwhile, Ben White and Kalvin Phillips – who were both part of the England set-up and are former team-mates at Leeds United – are also on the Greek island and enjoyed a meal at Mykonos’ Salt Bae restaurant, which is located at the west of the island, around five kilometers where Denzel and other England stars are believed to be partying.

White also posted images of him relaxing by his villa pool. The Brighton defender, who is being chased by Arsenal this summer, was a last-minute addition to Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad but did not feature for the Three Lions at the summer tournament.

The restaurant is popular among celebrities and influencers, particularly footballers. France forward Kylian Mbappe attended the Mykonos restaurant last week, while Roberto Mancini – who led Italy to success at Euro 2020 – has visited the iconic venue in the past.

Mykonos is the holiday destination where England defender Maguire was found guilty of assaulting police, verbal abuse, and attempted bribery by a court on the Greek island of Syros in August 2020.

He was given a suspended sentence of 21 months and 10 days in prison but has lodged an official appeal against all the convictions. The hearing is likely to be postponed this year as the country’s judicial system has stalled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The England defender told the BBC soon after that plain-clothed police officers, who did not identify themselves, pulled over his group’s minibus in Mykonos, threw him off the bus, hit him on his legs and told him his career was over.

Mykonos is a popular location for Premier League footballers and it is not the first time some of the England stars have travelled to the Greek island for their holidays.

In the summer of 2020, Mount travelled to Mykonos with close friend Declan Rice, who was also part of Southgate’s England squad – with the duo meeting up with the likes of Chelsea legends Didier Drogba and John Terry.

Grealish, meanwhile, has headed out to the Greek island to train ahead of previous Premier League campaign, alongside some holiday fun.

Other Three Lions stars have chosen separate holiday destinations this summer. Close friends Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, who both missed penalties in the shootout loss to Italy, took a private jet to the Caribbean location Turks and Caicos this week.

They have flown to Providenciales, a picturesque island in the Atlantic Ocean, which is on the UK Government’s green list and will provide the Three Lions stars with the perfect backdrop while they soak up the sun.

The players are said to have travelled with a rapper called Chibz Artist. Rashford is thought to have recently split up with his girlfriend Lucia Loi after eight years together, while Sancho is not known to currently have a partner.

Rashford and Sancho were filmed by musician Chibz Artist on Snapchat boarding a private jet, and looked in high spirits while rapping away inside the jaw-droppingly sleek cabin.

The 42,000-mile journey on board a private Bombardier Global 6000 jet took eight hours. They are understood to be staying in an island villa with friends.

Both Rashford and Sancho are due to link up with Manchester United later this summer when the latter’s £73million transfer from Borussia Dortmund gets confirmed this week.

The two players received intense racist abuse from supporters on social media for missing the penalty, while Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka also received abuse.

All three players both released lengthy statements on their social media channels this summer both apologising for the penalty misses and condemning the social media abuse fired at them.

HARRY MAGUIRE’S 2020 MYKONOS NIGHTMARE

Harry Maguire was arrested by a team of undercover police drafted in from mainland Greece to target organised crime in Mykonos last summer.

The incident was sparked after claims that the England star’s sister had been injected with a substance by two Albanian men as they waited for a minibus in the Fabrika part of the island.

As a result a brawl broke out – including his brother Joe and friend Christopher Sharman.

The 28-year-old – who was found guilty of assaulting and trying to bribe Greek police – denied the accusations and claimed he was the victim just hours after the court ruling.

Maguire also told the BBC that he thought he was being kidnapped by fake police in Mykonos and that he tried to run away ‘in fear for his life’ after they hit him in the legs and told him he ‘won’t play again’.

Maguire launched an immediate appeal after being given a suspended prison sentence for his part in the brawl on the holiday island.

Under Greek law an appeal will see Maguire given a retrial with the higher tribunal having up to eight years to hear the case.

However, when it does that place, Maguire will face a three-member panel of appeals court judges on the island of Syros.

Despite the fact the legal proceedings could take place as late as 2028,  Panaghiotis Poulios – the island’s chief prosecutor – has said he wants the case to closed sooner rather than later.
