English winemaker Nyetimber predicts a ‘bumper summer of sales’ following the Coronation weekend
Bumper sales: Nyetimber boss Eric Heerema
English winemaker Nyetimber has predicted a ‘bumper summer of sales’ following the Coronation weekend.
Chief executive and chairman Eric Heerema said the Sussex-based company was anticipating ‘strong demand’ for homegrown fizz over the May bank holiday.
Sales have surged in recent years, thanks in part to warmer temperatures for grape growing.
English sparkling wine sales leapt almost 60 per cent over the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee weekend last year, Heerema said.
And he is expecting to raise a glass to a sales boost this summer too.
King Charles III’s Coronation on Saturday, May 6 has a special significance for Nye- timber, which has been served at many Royal events.
‘Consumers are especially proud to champion and celebrate British goods and craftsmanship,’ Heerema said.
Nyetimber has followed rival Chapel Down in releasing a £39.50 limited-edition wine for the Coronation, with grapes grown in West Sussex. Heerema said: ‘We are expecting a bumper summer following the Coronation weekend.’
The winery is hoping to produce 2m bottles per year by 2026.
