An entire row of five bedroom Victorian terrace houses are on sale in Middlesbrough for the same price as a studio flat in London.

Residents of the Teesside town can buy eight of the Grade II listed properties in the town centre for a bargain price of just £799,950.

But travel down to Chelsea in London and buyers will pay exactly the same for a studio apartment in a similar period building, and will have to sleep and cook in the same room.

The street – 1-15 Queens Square – was originally built in the 1850s for the town’s ‘well-off’ residents but has been used as office space for the last 20 years.

It says: ‘In contrast to the many smaller terraced houses that were built in much of Middlesbrough, Queens Square was clearly a grand and desirable place to live.

‘Its location between the railway station and the St Hilda’s area meant that it was an important gateway to the old town for those arriving by rail.

‘The width of the footpaths helps to underline the grandeur and relative tranquillity of Queens Square.’
