Eric Roberts and his wife Eliza call police after frightening encounter with intruder

Eric Roberts and his wife Eliza had a frightening encounter with an intruder at their Los Angeles home. 

Eliza told TMZ that her daughter drove her back to her home in the San Fernando Valley at 9pm on Friday, the time when the incident occured.

The publication reports that she entered the code on her security gate and walked up the long driveway to her home.

Just as she went inside, her husband Eric, 66, went out and confronted a man who had apparently followed her up the driveway.

The man is said to have looked at Eric – who is the brother of actress Julia Roberts and father of Emma Roberts – and said ‘I know you’.

Eric was then said to have asked the man why he was there but he didn’t give a clear answer, prompting Eric to tell him to leave.

The man then walked back down the driveway in the dark. After realising he might still be lurking around the house, the couple then called the police.

The cops were said to have arrived a short time later but there was no sign of the man.

Eric has amassed more than 600 credits over his four-decade career with some of his films including Runaway Train, King of the Gypsies and The Dark Knight.

Speaking on the podcast Behind The Velvet Rope with David Yontef, Eric said: ‘Julia and I have always been fine’.

Eric criticised the media scrutiny of his relationship with Julia after she skyrocketed to fame following the release of her hit romantic comedy Pretty Woman in 1990. 

He said: ‘I think years and years ago I was doing a press tour for some movie. I don’t even know what movie it was. And it was just when Pretty Woman just got released. 

‘And so they’re asking a bunch of questions about Julia. And I said, “Hey, excuse me. Can we talk about me?” I think I was very funny. And of course, then it’s like, “Oh, they have a problem. Oh my God, they have a problem.”

‘And suddenly all these problems I keep hearing about I have with my sister that I don’t have with my sister. And they’re just popping up all the place,’ he added.

The Mississippi native added, ‘And I’m asked about them as if they’re real issues. “So what happened? And so and so and so and so. “Oh, I wasn’t aware of that.”

‘”And so all so now they’re keeping a secret. So Eric won’t talk about it.” So it blew up and blew up and became all these things it wasn’t.

‘And we don’t agree on a lot of things,’ Eric explained. ‘My sister and I though, we’ve always talked, we’ve always bitched and we’ve always had fun knowing each other. Simple as that.’
