Escape to the Chateau couple Dick and Angel Strawbridge announce their ‘biggest ever’ theatre tour

Escape to the Chateau stars Dick and Angel Strawbridge have vowed to ‘set the record straight’ in a new UK-wide tour after being dropped by Channel 4.

The celebrity couple will visit theatres across the country in 2024 with their show Dick & Angel Forever Home (Avec le nitty gritty), with tickets going on sale from next week.

In a Facebook post announcing the tour yesterday, the pair said each show will have a ‘click-bait segment’ that will allow them to ‘set the record straight!’

It comes after Channel 4 last month confirmed it is no longer working with the couple following an independent investigation into their conduct.

Sources claimed Two Rivers Media, the company that produces Escape To The Chateau, raised concerns about Dick, 63, and Angel, 45, and they will not be working on any new productions ‘following a review’.

Meanwhile, public documents this week revealed the couple are winding up their castle company Chateau-de-la-Motte Husson Limited, which was set up in 2017.

The latest news comes two years after the popular couple first brushed off bullying claims, which they vehemently denied at the time.

Amid the fallout, however, it appears the couple are pushing ahead with an ‘all new UK tour’ dubbed ‘Forever Home (avec le nitty gritty)’.

In a post on their official Facebook page, they wrote: It’s been nearly a year in the planning and we simply could not wait to tell you that we are hitting the road for our biggest ever theatre tour!

‘Taking our family on the road has been an honour, and a complete pleasure. Our first theatre tour in 2020; Dare To Do It, was a complete unknown. It was humbling, not only for the number of you that came to see us, but for the stories you told us when we had a chance to have a hug afterwards!’

They added: ‘In the new Tour, we explore Why & How we dared to do it, delve deep into our classic myth-busting and click-bait segment (always a favourite of ours, as we get to set the record straight!). It will be an interactive evening of fun and games, especially now we can have you back on stage!

‘We simply can’t wait, and thankfully this time we’ll get to hug after the show during the ‘meet and greet’. If you came to our first tour, you’ll know that we hang around until we say hello to everyone, or we are chucked out of the theatre!’

Since the split, it has been revealed that their company Chateau-de-la-Motte Husson Limited, which was set up in 2017, has been put forward for a ‘voluntary strike off’ from the register at Companies House.

The application was signed on May 9 by both directors, Dick and Angel, real name Angela. First notice of the strike off was given in the Gazette on May 23, and the company will be dissolved within two months of that date.

Meanwhile change is also afoot at Chateau Television Limited. Dick and Angel have stopped running the company, which was incorporated in 2020, and appointed Da2AD limited, which is run by an accountant.

That entity is now a shareholder, according to documents at Companies House which show that Dick and Angel no longer have ‘control’ at the company.

The couple said in an interview in November last year that they had wanted to ‘go out on a high’ and felt that finishing filming the Escape… shows was right for their young family.

However this followed reports of ‘aggressive and abusive’ behaviour by the couple towards the filming crew, reported by The Times in 2021.

Angel said that she did not recognise the picture painted, telling The Daily Telegraph: ‘If you asked every single person on our team, they would all say that Dick is completely chivalrous.

‘He will always be that person opening doors, helping people, and if anyone upsets me, he will be the first person to take control of the situation. He is very protective.’

On May 17, following a ‘review’ Channel 4 announced that they were cutting ties with the couple for good.

A spokeswoman said: ‘Following a review, we have taken the decision not to work with Dick and Angel on any new productions in the future.’

The shows were initially produced by Spark Media Partners but that working relationship ended after four seasons and they were replaced by Two Rivers Media.

However sources told Deadline that that relationship had also ‘deteriorated.’

In a statement on Instagram on May 26, the couple wrote: ‘Thank you for inviting us into your living rooms. You have watched our children grow up and shared our adventures.

‘It was a Strawbridge Family decision early last year to conclude ‘Escape to the Chateau’, but we have loved every moment and, despite the many challenges, we refused to give up on our dream, and in doing so have filled the chateau with love and laughter, and, most importantly, have created the most wonderful home for our family.

‘We know there are lots of stories in the press right now. It’s not worth us even trying to comment or give context, because anything can be made into a good headline.

‘We understand. There are two sides to every story and from the incredible support we have received, most of you know that.

‘We are proud of who we are, and we feel we must do what we believe to be correct, that is in fact what kept Escape to the Chateau unique, and whilst we have indeed parted ways with Channel 4, we are hugely grateful to them and their teams for their support and creativity over the years.

‘The future truly could not look more exciting and we thank you for your continued love and support.’

They continue to sell homewares and other goods via their website and Angel’s range of cushions, bedding and lampshades is still sold online through Next, Wayfair, Just Fabrics and Argos.

All events – like Garden Days and tours ‘Under the Stars’ offered are marked as unavailable and the chateau, which was rented out for weddings at £38,000 a time, is also not available for nuptials.

In a note on the website, the couple say that they are working through a two year backlog. It says: ‘We are currently on a two-year weddings ‘catch-up’, we will reopen enquiries as soon as we can!’

A post on Instagram last month showed that weddings are still going ahead at the 45 room property, which they bought in 2010.

They have announced that they will be going on a theatre tour to 32 venues next year.

On Instagram the couple said: ‘In the new Tour, we explore Why & How we dared to do it, delve deep into our classic myth-busting and click-bait segment (always a favourite of ours, as we get to set the record straight!).

‘It will be an interactive evening of fun and games, especially now we can have you back on stage!!’They went on: ‘We simply can’t wait, and thankfully this time we’ll get to hug after the show during the ‘meet and greet’.

‘If you came to our first tour, you’ll know that we hang around until we say hello to everyone, or we are chucked out of the theatre!’

A friend of the couple said: ‘Dick and Angel’s UK interests are run through UK companies, and, as is normal practice, the company structure is reviewed from time to time and rationalized as necessary to reflect the underlying business.’
