More than two years after it first premiered, Euphoria will finally return for its sophomore season, HBO revealed on Tuesday.
The network dropped a frenetic new trailer starring Zendaya as the unhinged drug addled Rue and announced that the fresh episodes will stream on January 9, 2022.
Plans for the second season of the show were derailed by COVID-19 and last year the network aired two special episodes outside of the timeline of the series as a sort of stop-gap for fans.

Zendaya kicks off the trailer laying in Rue’s messy bed while singing along to Frank Sinatra’s Oscar winning song, Call Me Irresponsible.
She proceeds to hop up and dance around to the classic song which get remixed partway through the trailer as frenzied scenes from the new season pop up in quick succession.
‘When you’re younger, everything feels so permanent,’ the Emmy winner narrates over shots of birthday parties and club scenes. ‘But as you get older, you begin to realize … nothing is. And everyone you love can drift away.’
The dramatic new season looks like a troubling one for Rue who appears to find herself in more than one violent altercation in the clip – at one point being shoved into a wall by her throat at the hands of a terrifying looking man.

For her part, Zendaya who plays the series’ main character, has been met with critical acclaim for her portrayal of Bennett and even won an Emmy for the role – making her the youngest ever Best Actress winner.

The Spider-Man: Far From Home actress reflected on the forthcoming season in an interview with Teen Vogue over the summer, saying it has been ‘challenging’ to film.
She reflected: ‘It’s a difficult season, I’m kinda in the middle of it. I had like a 2.30am wrap time last night, we’re in the thick of it. But, you know, the show was intense.
‘And it’s very personal to, not only ourselves and all the people who work on it, but also, to other people who have been able to relate so deeply to the characters or see their experiences being reflected through Rue.’
Zendaya went on: ‘It’s definitely challenging, it’s a challenging season…I think this season’s not going to be easy, though. It’s not going to be a fun watch, I don’t think. Sometimes.’
