Everton are believed to have approached the Clarets in a bid to land the 25-year-old,  although no agreement has yet been made according to The Athletic.

Were a deal to be finalised, Cornet would become the Toffees’ second arrival of the summer, after his team-mate James Tarkowski swapped Turf Moor for Goodison Park on a free transfer earlier this month.

Burnley and new boss Vincent Kompany are in the process of a summer overhaul following relegation, having also sold Nick Pope to Newcastle for £10million and Nick Collins to Wolves for £20.5m.

Everton, meanwhile, waved farewell to star man and club top scorer Richarlison, who joined Spurs for £60m at the start of July.

Frank Lampard marshalled his new club to safety during the latter half of last season, finishing four points and two league spots better off than Burnley in 18th.

It is believed the 44-year-old head coach is also plotting a move for Chelsea youngster Armando Broja, who has also been linked with switches to West Ham and Napoli.
