Everton try to HIJACK Crystal Palace’s move for Manchester United outcast Donny van de Beek as the Toffees try to get signings for incoming manager Frank Lampard ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline

  • Donny van de Beek is expected to leave Manchester United on loan this month

  • But Everton have now entered the race to sign the £40million flop on loan
  • The Toffees need signings for incoming manager Frank Lampard before Monday

Everton are trying to hijack Crystal Palace’s move for Manchester United outcast Donny van de Beek.

With the club set to appoint Frank Lampard as new head coach following a chaotic search for Rafa Benitez’s replacement, the Everton hierarchy are turning their attentions to landing reinforcements before Monday’s deadline.

And Van de Beek is now emerging as a target for the Toffees heading into the closing hours of the window.

Palace accelerated their attempts to land Van de Beek on loan earlier this week and there has been significant hope at Selhurst Park that a deal for the creative midfielder can be successful in time for Monday’s deadline.

Negotiations between Palace and United are said to have been positive, raising hope at the south London club that a deal – which would be one of the most eye-catching of the window – is possible. But they are now in fight with Everton to sign Van de Beek.

Palace were resigned to not making a signing this month but the opportunity to land the 24-year-old has seen the club shift into gear. The opportunity to sign the Holland star until the end of the season arose at the start of the week and Eagles chiefs held internal talks about the possibility.

Van de Beek has struggled for game time since arriving at Old Trafford in a deal worth £40million in 2020.

He’s made just four Premier League starts in that time and would now welcome the opportunity to play regular first-team football.

According Sky Sports, Dutch legend Dennis Bergkamp – who is the father of Van de Beek’s girlfriend Estelle – contacted his former Arsenal team-mate Patrick Vieira about potentially signing Van de Beek.

The Manchester United midfielder is expecting his first child with Bergkamp’s daughter later this year. The pair announced the news on Instagram in November 2021.

Therefore, it comes as no surprise that Bergkamp was eager to help Van de Beek find a new club after failing to cement his place in the Manchester United first-team.
