Everton have confirmed that talks with Friedkin Group over a potential takeover of the club have ended.

Toffees owners Blue Heaven Holdings have been trying to sell the club for an extended period of time, initially looking set to sell to 777 Partners before the deal was cancelled.

The latest talks have been with the Friedkin Group to explore a potential takeover, but both parties, according to a joint statement, ‘agree it is in both their interests for Everton to explore alternative options’.

The Friedkin Group have been lenders to the club, helping facilitate the club’s new stadium being built, and had expressed interesting in taking over from Farhad Moshiri and Co.

Those talks, however, will no longer progress, with the Toffees now having to look elsewhere.

Roma owner Dan Friedkin Friedkin, 59, is worth £4.9billion and is chairman of Texas-based Friedkin Group. He had emerged as Moshiri’s favoured choice amid extensive talks with four other parties.

It is understood Friedkin, whose film studio produced the Oscar nominated ‘Flowers Of The Killer Moon’, presented an all-equity offer which appealed to Moshiri ahead of early frontrunners Andy Bell and George Downing, who lent Everton £158million.

Reports, however, suggest that the £200m Everton owe 777 Partners was a stumbling block in the deal.

Full report to follow.
