Surprise! Golden Globe winner Ewan McGregor (L) and LucasFilms president Kathleen Kennedy (R) announced Friday at the D23 Expo that he’ll reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in a new original Disney+ series

‘The scripts are written’ and they begin shooting the Star Wars spin-off ‘next year’ with three-time Oscar-nominated director Stephen Daldry (The Crown, The Reader) at the helm.

McGregor previously played the Jedi Master in The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and Revenge of the Sith having replaced the late Alec Guinness who originated the role.

Obi-Wan briefly mentored Luke Skywalker as well as his father Anakin, who eventually turned to the dark side and transformed into Darth Vader.

The Guildhall grad has a family connection to Star Wars thanks to his uncle Denis Lawson – who played rebel pilot Wedge Antilles in A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi.

‘I did inspire my nephew Ewan McGregor to be an actor,’ Lawson told the Scottish Field in 2017.

‘When he was eight or nine, my sister said “Ewan has got something to say to you.” And he said very seriously, “I want to be an actor.” He was very much inspired by me.
