Ex-Barclays boss Jes Staley talked about human trafficking with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein
Ex-Barclays boss Jes Staley discussed claims of ‘human trafficking’ with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, say new court filings.
Staley had a senior role at JP Morgan and the disgraced financier was his client when ‘news stories’ emerged in 2010, a document cited in a US lawsuit said.
The bank launched a review in January 2011 in the light of the allegations, the lawsuit said.

‘Jes Staley discussed the topic with Jeffrey Epstein who replied there was no truth to the allegations, no evidence and was not expecting any problems,’ the newly released document was cited as saying.
The claims surfaced in a New York court case centring on Epstein’s activities.
JP Morgan faces two civil suits alleging it enabled his behaviour – one from the US Virgin Islands, where Epstein had a home, and the other from an alleged victim.
The bank is in turn seeking to claw back tens of millions of dollars it paid Staley from 2006 to 2013 to cover costs that it may incur as a result.
Staley’s legal team has described the allegations about his connection to Epstein as ‘slanderous’ and ‘baseless’.
