Ex-Channel Seven political reporter Olivia Leeming announces her engagement and shows off her diamond ring

Channel Seven’s former federal political reporter Olivia Leeming is engaged to her long-term boyfriend.

The journalist, who now freelances for the network in Bangkok, Thailand, announced the news on Instagram on Monday.

Olivia’s partner William proposed to her over a romantic candlelit dinner.

Olivia showed off her diamond engagement ring as she sipped from a coconut. 

‘Coconuts about you,’ she captioned the post.

She also shared a photo of the couple from the night, with Olivia looking stylish in a pink floral mini dress.

The pair received congratulatory messages from Olivia’s followers.

Olivia recently shared a birthday tribute to Will, writing on Instagram: ‘Happy birthday. No one else I’d rather be on this crazy ride with than you.’

She announced she was leaving Seven last June in a statement to Telum Media.

Olivia will be ‘freelancing throughout Asia for the next three years,’ it read.

It came two days after she shared an emotional post on Instagram farewelling her Seven News colleagues.

‘Nearly five years after accepting my dream job in Seven’s Parliament House bureau, it’s time to embark on a new adventure,’ she wrote at the time.

‘This week I’ll be heading to Bangkok (camera and laptop in tow) to find stories across Asia in the midst of a pandemic.’

Olivia went on to say her ‘love of federal politics will never fade’. 

She also reflected on the news events she covered during her five years at Seven.

‘Covering the decisions that impact all Australians and attempting to hold those in power to account has been an immense privilege,’ she said.

Olivia still freelances for Seven on occasion from Bangkok, and was one of the first journalists to report on the ground following the death of Shane Warne last month.
