Externally it benefits from a detached garage, off-street parking and gardens to the side and rear and is ‘ideally situated on the seafront, with stunning, uninterrupted views across the coastline and water’.

The back garden of the property directly overlooks the seafront with the white sands of the beach almost in touching distance.

Although in need of modernisation the sellers said it was a rare opportunity to purchase a property in such a sought-after location.

Speaking when it went on the market, Gary Murphy, partner and auctioneer at Allsop, said: ‘St Ives has always been a popular destination but the area has become increasingly sought-after.

‘The “Poldark effect” has no doubt helped to attract people to the town having highlighted the charm of the area.

‘Perched on the seafront, this property is a rare gem, with potential for modernisation into a beautiful family home, or a complete redevelopment of the site.

‘We expect competitive bidding from both investors and owner-occupiers in September’.

With Porthmeor being one of Cornwall’s top beaches, and one of only eight beaches in the county to hold the prestigious Blue Flag award, the property is not expected to sit on the market for long. It had a guide price of £600,000.

Devon and Cornwall Housing, which owns the property, said the proceeds would be spent on local affordable housing.
