Ex-Lakers guard Shannon Brown is arrested for ‘shooting at two house hunters who entered his Georgia home mistakenly thinking it was for sale’

  • Ex-Lakers guard Shannon Brown has been charged with aggravated assault after witnesses say he fired a rifle at two people who entered his Georgia home
  • The house hunting couple told police that they believed his property was on the market because they saw a ‘for sale’ sign and his front door was open
  • The couple said they announced their presence and heard a voice say ‘come in’ 
  • Brown allegedly then emerged with a rifle, causing the couple to exit and return to their car while he fired off five or six shots in their direction
  • Police did recover a shell casing at the scene. The investigation is ongoing

Former Lakers guard Shannon Brown has been charged with aggravated assault after witnesses say he fired a rifle at two people who entered his Georgia home under the mistaken belief that the property was for sale

Former Los Angeles Lakers guard Shannon Brown has been charged with aggravated assault after witnesses say he fired a rifle at two people who entered his Georgia home under the mistaken belief that the property was for sale.

The 34-year-old Brown was arrested on May 2 and bonded out two days later.  

Brown told local police that he believed the man and woman were breaking into his home, according to The Fayetteville County Citizen.

The alleged incident occurred around 6pm on May 2 when a man and woman stopped at Brown’s residence in Tyrone, Georgia believing that his home was for sale. There was a ‘for sale’ sign outside the house, the couple told police, adding that the gate and front door were both open.

The couple says they announced their presence at Brown’s front door and entered upon hearing a voice say ‘come in.’

It was then that Brown emerged with a rifle, causing the couple to exit and return to their car while he fired off five or six shots in their direction, the two people told police. 

Police did recover a shell casing at the scene. The investigation is ongoing. 

The house is not currently on the market, according to local real estate websites. The property was valued at around $1 million in 2019.

Fayetteville police did not immediately respond to the Daily Mail’s records request.  

An Illinois native, Shannon Brown attended Michigan State from 2003 until 2006 before being drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the 25th-overall pick of the NBA Draft.

After bouncing between the NBA’s developmental league and the NBA for several seasons, Brown caught on with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2009 and was a major contributor on the franchise’s last two NBA titles.

Following two seasons with the Phoenix Suns, Brown had brief stints with the San Antonio Spurs, New York Knicks and Miami Heat and ultimately retired after a brief return to the developmental league.

Brown secretly married to pop singer, Monica, in 2010. They had a public ceremony in 2011, and now have two children. The couple filed for divorce in 2019 and that was finalized in October. 

The 6-foot-4 combo guard earned over $17 million over his NBA career, according to Spotrac.com.
