A vengeful woman who planned to ‘break a few bones’ of her divorced Indian husband in Australia back-fired when the hired goons switched sides over a dispute over payment schedule.
Yogesh Gupta, 53, approached the Melbourne Police after receiving a call from the gangster allegedly hired by his former wife Deepa Gupta, and based on the taped conversation secured ‘restraining orders’ from the city court.
However, the Indian-origin Australian said he is still frightened.

‘The call came on August 21 and the caller told me that he had been keeping an eye on me. He told me that he knew my everyday schedule and where I would be at any point of time of the day. This was scary,’ Yogesh told Mail Today over phone.
‘The man then told me that he had instructions to break my legs and show the evidence of my hospitalisation to my former wife by Friday, the day she flies off to India, to collect his payment.’
Yogesh said when he asked the caller why he was giving him all that information, he said that Deepa had gone back on her word over the advance payment and asked him to instead rob her husband for compensation.

‘He said he was doing me this favour so that he can recover from me $322 (Rs 20,600), the money spent on my surveillance over the last two days,’ said Yogesh who recorded the 4.18-minute conversation with the unknown person on the phone, and asked him to call back in a few hours with regards to his payment.
Yogesh then rushed to the Melbourne East police station. ‘When the hired goon called up again to discuss the payment, it was in the presence of the police officials.’
During the third call, the gangster told Yogesh that he would send his man to pick up the money spent on the surveillance, and in return provide some documentary evidence against his former wife.
Based on the three phone conversations, the police issued an arrest warrant against Deepa Gupta and produced her at the Melbourne magistrate court last Friday.
The court has passed a slew of instructions against Deepa and asked her to comply until the final order.
The accused has been asked to stay 200 metres away from any place where the protected person (Yogesh Gupta) lives or works.
‘The respondent must not commit family violence against the protected person, intentionally damage the property, attempt to locate or keep them under surveillance, publish on the internet any material about the victim,’ the court said in its restraining order.
When Mail Today contacted the lawyer of accused Deepa Gupta, he refused to comment on the incident saying that he was yet to get complete details of the case.
Yogesh and Deepa, both chartered accountants by profession, got divorced in Australia after 19 years of marriage. Their relatives in Delhi told Mail Today on condition of anonymity that Deepa was actively involved in politics in the national Capital and wanted to continue with her political career in India while Yogesh had settled in Australia.
This disagreement, according to the relatives, led to their separation and Deepa filed a case of dowry harassment against Yogesh in India.
The case is still pending in the court. Yogesh said apparently his former wife wanted to cause him bodily harm and teach him a lesson but she probably ran out of money to pay the goons and he was saved by a stroke of luck.
He also claimed that this was not the first time when an attempt to harm him was made. He, however, declined to give any further details.
