A rural suburb have been plunged into lockdown after shots were fired.

Police have established an emergency declaration in Purga south-west of Brisbane on Monday night.

It comes after authorities were called to an address on Ipswich Boonah Road around 4.35pm following reports of shots being fired.

There are no initial reports of any injuries.

A Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) was declared around 5.45pm roughly an hour after authorities arrived at the scene.

The exclusion zone encompasses Ipswich Boonah Road to the west, Hughes Rd to the north, Eastfield Court to the east and Carmichael Rd to the south.

Members of the public who are currently within the exclusion are being urged to stay indoors and await further instruction.

Queensland Police have advised the public to avoid this area.
