Experts transform three bedrooms using furniture from Kmart, Target and Big W

In recent years, Big W, Kmart and Target have become the go-to stores for those wanting on-trend home decor items at a budget-friendly price.

Which means transforming your bedroom ahead of summer needn’t come with a hefty price tag.

Recently, Today put these stores to the test, making over a room in three ways using a selection of homeware items from each.

The result? Not only did the rooms look summer-ready, but the least expensive was a very affordable $243 in total.

Starting with Kmart, Today show host Jo Abi demonstrated how pink bed linen, cushions, including the store’s must-have piece: the knot pillow (priced at $8), and a grey knitted throw made for a very pretty bed setting.

‘When you go to Kmart, you can pretty much get everything you’re after, Jo said on the program.

A touch of greenery was added to the space using a $10 palm print. In keeping with an inviting relaxed theme, Jo included the jute rug which made for a ‘beachy air’.

Other features include a bedside table, a lamp, and a shelving unit.

The entire cost of the Kmart package was $288.

Next, Jo, along with hosts Karl Stefanovic and Georgie Gardner, looked at a bedroom transformed using home decor items from Big W.

Items from the budget retailer which captured Jo’s eye included a quilt cover that featured a bright green leaf pattern and was also reversible.

She explained the set could either be used on its own to create a uniform look or mixed for a fresh take.

A low table at the end of the bed was added with a rug. To complete the look, Jo used Scandi-inspired side tables and gold-coloured lamps for on-trend appeal.

‘Once again at Big W you can go from nothing to this beautiful decorative set for your bedroom,’ Jo said.

And she revealed the package was the most affordable, costing a mere $243. This included new side tables, lamps, a rug and a bed set with pillows.

Lastly, the trio looked at a bedroom setting created using home decor items by Target.

‘Target has done a lot of work on their ranges and they have these beautiful features for your bedroom,’ Jo said.

She opted for white embossed bedding offset with pretty pink touches, including fluffy pillows, priced at $20 each, printed feature cushions, and a rose-hued throw.

A tasselled rug in shades of grey added a luxury boho touch as did an ottoman in grey.

Jo’s advice to those thinking about updating their interiors wasn’t to only buy items from one store.

‘I recently moved homes, and I didn’t get everything from one place. I went to lots of different places and built it from there,’ she said.
