Explosions tear through dozens of HGV trailers behind Whirlpool factory in Peterborough sending huge cloud of smoke across the city

- ‘Large bangs’ and explosion sounds were heard across the city at around 7pm
- Fire and Rescue Services confirmed they were attending a ‘Hotpoint factory’ and Hotpoint is owned by American appliance brand, Whirlpool
An explosion ripped through dozens of trailers behind a Whirlpool site in Peterborough releasing a huge plume of smoke into the city sky.
A series of explosion sounds were heard earlier today and at least 15 HGV trailers are in flames.
Peterborough Fire Services tweeted that a number of crews are at the scene.

The smoke carried through the city with nearby neighbours having to shut their windows due to the huge smoke eruption
Hotpoint is owned by American company Whirlpool and sells washing machines and dishwashers
A Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Services spokeswoman told Cambridgeshire Live: ‘All we know at the moment it’s [a] big incident, at Hotpoint warehouse, Shrewsbury Avenue in Peterborough.
‘We’ve got lots of fire engines there and it is something serious.’
The site is owned by Whirlpool, a kitchen appliances company.
Reports from Twitter user and former Local Councillor, John Peach, say at 20:20 the fire is almost out
Twitter user, John Peach, said at around 7pm: ‘Massive fire somewhere eastern area of Peterborough. Can hear large bangs as if they’re explosions. Anyone got any news?’
hi i’m tim said: ‘Insane fire in Peterborough currently. Can see it from miles away too. Thinking it’s Hotpoint in the Woodston area?’
The local police force said on Twitter: ‘We are currently on scene assisting Fire and Ambulance on Celta Road, Woodston at a large fire.’
Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Services said they were attending with the police to quell the fire
They asked the public to keep the area clear to make way for emergency vehicles.
‘There may be road closures as well, so please check for details,’ they added.
Hotpoint is a subsidiary of Whirlpool, an appliances company, that supply washing machines and dishwashers.
Hotpoint sell ‘quality home and kitchen appliances,’ according to their website.
