The protest began at Martin Place about 5pm with the crowd slowly making its way down George Street.

Police were out in large numbers to keep an eye on the protest.

Uniformed officers could be seen in large group monitoring the march from the sidelines.

Chief Inspector Paul Dunstan told 2GB Radio that while the protest is approved they won’t be tolerating any disruption.

‘There’ll certainly be no supergluing… They’ve given us the required seven days notice.’

‘We’re okay to facilitate that… it’s when they don’t get up or when they don’t move on or if they do glue themselves, that’s when we’ll have the problems.’

The protest ran its course and most of the crowd began dispersing by about 7pm.

The protesters are reportedly already organising another protest with police.

The Extinction Rebellion group began organising protests early this year in major capital cities across Australia.

In August the group organised a large scale protest in Brisbane where members of the crowd superglued themselves to the asphalt at busy intersections.

The supergluing practice spread to protest in other cities with more major protests being held in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney in September.
