Claims that a popular Australian kids’ show is peddling explicit subliminal messages has reached new extremes, as one commentator suggests the opening jingle for Play School involves a shocking sexual innuendo.
‘Open wide, come inside’ are the words that children and parents alike have been gleefully chanting for decades.
But regular Today show guest John Mangos has weighed in on a political correctness debate to suggest that we should consider revising the classic lyric.
John Mangos suggests that Play School’s theme song contains sexual innuendo in the line ‘Open wide, come inside’

‘Do we now have to change – wait for this – the intro to Play School?’ he asked the panel.
‘Open wide come inside?’
Mangos’ suggestion was in response to 2GB radio host Ben Fordham’s recent outrage over the show’s allegedly politically correct overreach.
A recent episode saw Play School presenters changing the lyrics of an iconic song from ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’ to ‘We’re going on a bush hunt.’
‘Obviously, the national broadcaster has decided this classic children’s song is no longer appropriate for children,’ said Fordham.
‘Are they trying to tackle the epidemic of children killing bears in Australia?’

Mangos seemed to agree, proposing that if broadcasters want to start red-taping all of the potentially explicit messages hidden throughout the program they should begin with the opening theme.
‘John, what are you suggesting about that song?’ asked an incredulous David Campbell, while Shelly Horton laughingly agreed ‘That’s not very PC.’
Horton then proceeded to drop a suggestive quip about the next line of the song:
‘Through the round window.’
‘Thank god the third lyric is ‘It’s Play School’ and not something else,’ Campbell added.
Horton went on to state that the bear hunt lyric should be changed, insofar as it might condone hunting in general.
