F45 co-owner Adam Gilchrist buys $14million Freshwater home so he can build a pool

F45 co-owner Adam Gilchrist has snapped up his neighbour’s $14million home after they objected to him building a rooftop swimming pool on his own property.

The new owner of the house on Oceans View Road at Freshwater, in Sydney’s north, now plans to knock down the three-storey house to make room for a pool.

Mr Gilchrist initially wanted to demolish the Californian style cottage he bought on the street in 2017, and install a two-storey house with a pool and terrace on the top.

But several neighbours objected to the proposal saying it did not comply with building height or boundary controls.

Documents from Northern Beaches Council revealed some residents were concerned Mr Gilchrist would excavate below street level.

‘We are concerned about the obvious potential for the current building height control to be ignored, if allowed to proceed in its current format, via planting and other additions to the proposed pool deck area that may further raise the height of the dwelling over such a large area,’ one resident said in their objection.

Another neighbour said: ‘We are also very concerned about noise pollution from the proposed rooftop swimming pool.’

The development application for the $2.5million redevelopment was withdrawn earlier this year, after Mr Gilchrist bought his neighbour’s recently revamped and contemporary property in December 2018.

The sale has now settled and the $14 million price tag for the 440sqm property overshadows its last sale price of $800,000 in 2003.

The sale price puts it at more than twice the record for the northern Sydney suburb.

He had hoped to keep the recent sale private, though the deal was made public when it was filed on official title records.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Mr Gilchrist has opened up on his plans to turn the house into a ‘demolition site’ so he can make way for his pool.

He said he did not buy his neighbours house because he originally objected to his construction plans.

‘If we went to court to fight for it, we would have won and crushed everyone,’ he said.

He said he withdrew his development application because he had decided to buy next door and keep the original cottage.

Though he said he would undertake renovations that reflected the ‘heritage of the whole beach’.

Only in April Mr Gilchrist bought an $18.9million beach pad in Byron Bay, which boasts six-bedrooms, four bathrooms and a swimming pool.

The colonial-style home broke Byron Bay’s property sale record, which was previously held by the same home when it was sold in 2006 for $15.7 million.
