An annoying bug that causes Messenger’s iOS app to freeze up after typing a few words hit a number of iPhone users yesterday. This video shows how the glitch affected the app
Facebook told MailOnline: ‘On January 17th, we learned that a very small number of people who were using Messenger on iOS had some trouble in typing messages.
‘We investigated and the problem is resolved. We are sorry for any inconvenience.’
Facebook did not disclose what caused the glitch, or how many Messenger users were affected.
The company has not responded to MailOnline’s request for further comment.
The glitch, which first appeared yesterday, meant users could type just a few words at a time before Messenger no longer responded to their key strokes.
For some people, the glitch caused their app to freeze, forcing them to close and restart it after each message.
Some people took to Twitter to vent their frustrations.
User @AJRoccaforte tweeted: ‘Tonight’s problem with Facebook Messenger: I can’t type more than a few words before it won’t let me type anything else. Restarting my phone and re-downloading the app did nothing.’

The iOS keyboard has seen a string of strange glitches in recent months, including a bug in November that meant some iPhone and iPad users couldn’t type the letter ‘i’.
When frustrated users tried to type the symbol, their predictive text corrected it to an ‘A’ alongside a strange character.

The iOS keyboard has seen a string of strange glitches in recent months, including a bug in November that meant some iPhone and iPad users couldn’t type the letter ‘i’
Reddit user TheCravin reported the bug and said that Apple’s predictive keyboard feature suggests a random character like ‘A,’ ‘#,’ or ‘!’ followed by a ‘[?]’ symbol.
The phone’s predictive text automatically replaces the ‘I’ unless the user chooses to correct it, they said.
The glitch, which was fixed by Apple after a few hours, arrived with its iOS 11.1 update.
